Springtime Road Trip
Situated as we are in the Boreal transition zone in Central Saskatchewan, we appreciate the seasonal variations but by early March we do begin to dream of snow free views, so occasionally take the opportunity at that time to travel to more temperate climates.
We did so in March, traveling to the lower mainland and Vancouver Island where we enjoyed a magnificent 10 days on a tour we could title
“The 4F’s.. Family, Friends, Food and Favorites"
Highlights include: family in Ladner, Campbell River, and Parksville, friends in Saanichton, Nanoose Bay, and Courtenay, business tours of Tree Island Yogurt in Courtenay (4 days after their first run of Prairie Berry Yogurt that included Northern Light Orchards haskap), Vancouver Island Salt Company, Shelter Point Distillery including the Shelter Point Farm property just south of Campbell River, Hillmark Boats at Courtenay, Vancouver Freeze Dry, and not least an excellent visit with our friends and business associates Lee and Scott Gibson and Rob Flynn in Vancouver.
Mingled with this was some great food events including Lee’s Filipino food preparations, Realm Food Company in Parksville, and to wrap it all up, an awesome evening meal perched on a cliff on the side of the highway overlooking the US Gulf Islands at the almost 100 year old Oyster Bar south of Bellingham Washington.
We thought our NLO followers may appreciate a collage of photos as evidence of some of our experiences on this tour.
Happy Easter! We arrived back home to more snow and cold, but soon enough it will all be gone, signaling full steam ahead on spring work in the orchard. Anyone interested in helping with spring pruning ???
